Amana Heating and Air Conditioning System

Amana Cooling & Heating

The Amana Corporation (as it’s known today) was founded in 1934 by George Foerstner as The Electrical Equipment Co. in Middle Amana, Iowa. The company gained its reputation first for the creation of an innovative beverage cooler, and then for manufacturing the first commercial walk-in cooler, or cold-storage locker—a staple in a number of commercial establishments, including grocery stores and restaurants. Amana entered the residential market in the late 1940s when it manufactured the first upright home freezer, followed soon after by the first side-by-side refrigerator freezer combo.  The company was sold to a group of investors in 1950 (including Foerstner) when it became known as Amana Refrigeration, Inc.

In the 1950s and 1960s, Amana became known for manufacturing a variety of innovative commercial as well as residential home appliances, including home air conditioners, home heating products, microwave ovens, and more. In the years since then, Amana has expanded its product offering to include other appliances including countertop ranges, ovens, dishwashers, washing machines, dryers, furnaces and more. Amana was purchased by Goodman Global—a heating and cooling manufacturer—in 1997, while its home appliance division is now owned by Whirlpool Corporation.
